Discovering Engineering 2018
(Volunteered from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., 6 hours)
Hosted by Student Engineering Council and held at the Spindletop Museum. It is a community event where students ranging from elementary to high school visit with their families to be introduced to various engineering concepts. As a representative for SWE (Society of Women Engineers), I and another representative were in-charge of giving the students a hands-on experience with the activities we had planned. Which was to make chalk rockets, our duty was to explained the chemistry behind the the chalk rockets to the groups of kids and their families.
After explaining the science, we gather all the supplied needed to create a chalk rocket, that being the corn starch, tablets that create the reaction, and a plastic bottle. From there we placed the bottle on the ground and watched it shoot up like a rocket!
